Workforce Development
Our Workforce Development program started in 2020 at the height of the pandemic were we started providing opportunities for those experiencing homelessness to work in our shop building chicken coops and recycling foam. In 2025 we received a grant through the City of Greensboro to provide a day labor program which is still being developed and has started with a team that goes out and does litter pickup and cleanup of abandoned camps around Greensboro.

Homeless Outrech
THCD has and continues to provide social service through Street Outreach were those experiencing homelessness where they are including camps, coordinated weekly access points like High Point library and permanent access point HOPE Center.
Street outreach allows staff an opportunity to meet with and gather information from individuals and families in an environment that is less uncomfortable or intimidating. Coordinated access point allow staff and other organizations to work together and provide additional resources and necessities for those that are comfortable in meeting together at a designated space. Permanent Access Points like the HOPE Center provide longer operating hours and dedicated staff and resources on site allowing staff and clients to build a report with one another enabling staff to provide inhanced service
Trade Builders Academy
In the spring of 2021, THCD introduced our National Center for Construction Education (NCCER) nationally accredited certification program. We started by offering CORE classes to adults in partnership with Goodwill Industries in Guilford County. Our CORE classes run every 10 weeks consecutively throughout the year. We continue to expand the program by offering Carpentry and Electrical certification in 2024 and 2025. 2026 program will offer CORE, Carpentry level 1, Electrical level 1, and Plumbing level 1 certification courses. In 2023 we offered our first Summer Camp for 15-20 year old Guilford County High School students. The Summer camp offers student an opportunity to earn a certification and encourage them to join their schools carpentry program.
